WordPress 2.0

Posted in: Website

Right, so I took some time off and upgraded my WordPress to version 2.0. The interface has changed quite a bit but my dashboard loads so slowly that I didn’t wait for it to load at all. Is anyone having the same problem? Other pages works fine, it’s just the dashboard page. I can’t find anything wrong with it since it does loads but at a terribly slow speed. I’m in search of a ‘check spelling’ plugin that works. I need one badly, my spelling is totally pathetic. Anyway, the upgrade went smooth other than the plugins. I’ve got the smilies to work in the comments page, but I’m still trying to figure out how to add it back to my WordPress admin panel. The PHP EXEC didn’t work in the new version anyway so I switched to a new plugin for running PHP which is a lot better and effective, love it.

I really like how there’s a preview function for the post and pages which save me from having to save and view it on another page. The codings for the tutorials were also edited because the plugin I use to run PHP was rather good such that all the codes were executed into PHP functions too. But well, it’s fixed and running great. The threaded comments (also known as the ‘replying comments’ thing) was removed as I’ve no wish to edit the core files again, couldn’t find a nice good one though :( . I’ve set my mind on making a new layout but didn’t quite get what I’ve wanted so it’s still in progress. :)

Regarding the slight change in layout, Dayna is a lazy girl you know. Thus, I edited it slightly with a photo manipulation of a butterfly (hey, I did spent quite some time on it perfecting it :D ) It’s more autumn and spring feel now. So, this layout will stay for a very long time till maybe after my final examinations in March 2006.

Anyway, just thought someone might find this useful, if you want to upgrade your WordPress to the latest version and are not sure whether your current plugins will work, you may check the plugin compatibility list in the Codex. I heard it’s not the full list though but it’s pretty extensive so it might be of some help.

I’ve been making some changes and updates to the content, implemented a better search system to be used on the questions page. After surfing around, I found the smart archives more flexible thus changed that for the archives page. The site map was also redone (I’m sick of the manual one, thus using the more automatic approach now). =)

Awww, new layout! You do plan ahead, very ahead, don’t you? :haha: March 2006!

The butterfly looks good, it has a slightly different colour scheme than the rest, which makes it stand out more, I think. Haha, the custom-font titles look good, too. I’ve always wanted to use that plugin, but I need to wait for a new layout to sprout first. -.-

I don’t particularly feel like messing with wordpress files right now, particularly if it’s not a solid release. ^^; It sounds good, though, the 2.0 version.

Ah, I just came across a spell checker plugin hours ago. (I don’t have any need for it though, since I have Dreamweaver to check for me.) I think it’s from the maker of the Image Headlines plugin, too. Lemme see… http://www.coldforged.org/plugins/ Yeah, down the page a little bit.

And I used PHPExec at first too, but it had some odd line and paragraph breaks near HTML comments, so I switched to RunPHP. Very nice.

Lovely work on the layout, again!

Thanks Aneesah. :) So far, there hasn’t been any problems on mine yet, thankfully. I’ve used that spell plugin before but it didn’t work on version 1.5.x and 2.0. Ya, I’ve the same problem with PHPEXEC too. RUNPHP don’t work in version 2.0 though, only EXECPHP works.

Wordpress 2.0 is out already? That’s fast. But I doubt I will upgrade yet until I receive some positive feedback about the new version. Got to ‘test the waters first’. Heh.

And I noticed the butterflies on the left bar. They look lovely. :)

Hmm my dashboard loads quite quickly for me. Maybe try refreshing it a few times and see how it goes? As for wp-grins, try the fix from here: http://comox.textdrive.com/pipermail/wp-testers/2005-November/000555.html. Worked for me. :)

Did that, but it’s still very slow. Currently it take about 240 seconds to load which is a few minutes. Thanks for the link Valerie, it’s working great now, got the smilies back in the admin panel. :)

I’m waiting for a beta release before upgrading to WP 2. so how do you find it? does smart archives work in WP 2?

    Reply to Nadine:

It’s pretty good, I think it’s much better than the previous version just that the dashboard thing is bugging me. Yes, smart archives work in WordPress 2.0 too, I’m using that now as I find it better than my previous one. you may want to check out the plugin compatibility list in the Codex =)
