There is a growing number of websites that are trying too hard to look professional. Having a professional looking site does not mean only having a professional looking layout. The way you portray yourself as a web master and the language you use also plays an important role. Let’s take for example, a new website which has just stepped foot onto the Internet. The owner of the website started to make a layout and her goal for the layout is just to have the layout looking professional. This goal would backfires and the layout would look too simple and not at all professional looking. There’s a huge difference between what we call a professional layout and a simple layout. Most of the time, people mix up these two, hence the number of websites who have “simple” layouts increase.
On the other hand, some websites do have a professional layout but without an original feel, this is what I mean by copying the style of another layout. By duplicating a certain style from another website, it loses its originality. In my opinion, I don’t see the point in having a professional looking site. So what if your site looks professional? Does it mean that you are an expert in web designing? No, it does not. Does it show that you are mature and more superior as compared to the others? No, it does not either. Experiences and web designing skills have to be gain through time although I have to admit that a person who has say for example 5 years of web designing experiences may not produce a site which is better than one who has only a mere 2 years of experiences. Why is that so? Person A and B started web designing at the same time. Both could achieve the same level of skills if both of them have the same level of the desire to learn. But if A does not improve and thinks that he has enough skills and experiences already, over time, B will better than him because he strive to improve himself and learn more. Therefore, time does not equal to experiences. More often than not, I have seen people claiming to have certain years of web designing experiences but their website does not match with what they claim; they have a poorly coded site and some doesn’t even display basic coding skills.
There are also another type of people I have seen while surfing the Internet and browsing through other websites. If you want to have a professional looking site, be professional yourself and I mean your language and attitude. Some people cannot stand others having better sites than them or for various reasons started making trouble, like leaving anonymous spam or rude messages. Does this show you are professional? It only reflects how childish you are and in no way would you achieve a professional site with those attitudes. So what’s the big deal about having a professional website when yours is just a personal site? Personally I feel that there is none.
